The days are getting a little shorter; the air is getting a little crisper; the leaves are just beginning to change color; schools are back in session; Friday nights may find us under the lights of a hometown football game or around bonfires with our friends – all sure signs that Fall is here! Of course to us that means it’s time to begin rehearsals for this year’s annual Christmas Cantata!!
For this year’s cantata, we are excited to announce that we have commissioned Paul Cravens, a graduate of Concordia College who went on to get a Master’s Degree in composition, to help put together an original cantata especially for us!! Worth noting – Paul was in the cantata orchestra two years while a student at Concordia, so he has inside knowledge as to what we’re all about!
We have reserved the Bremer Bank Theatre at the NDSCS Cultural Center for Saturday, Dec. 11th and Sunday, Dec. 12th for this year’s performances. It is such a joy that we will once again have a full orchestra as part of this year’s cantata.
We all know how much of an impact this much-anticipated annual event makes on those who attend, hearing the story of the birth of our Savior and leaving with hearts filled with the joy of Christmas. We also know how much it means to those who have been part of the telling of this blessed story! Spending time in rehearsals with others who truly believe the message they are bringing is a ministry onto itself. And the two performances with a live orchestra are incredibly moving experiences that mere words cannot begin to describe.
Perhaps you or someone you know would like to be in this year’s cantata choir. We welcome all who have a passion to sing and praise God!
Our first rehearsal will be at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 10th, in the Breckenridge UMC Sanctuary. We plan on rehearsing most Sundays, with the possibility of one or two Wednesdays if needed, between then and the performances.
For planning purposes, please email Kent Loken directly at [email protected] if you plan on attending. Helps to know how many books to have on hand. Thank you!
God’s Blessings!
Jana and Kent
